BEACHES

EXPLORE  THE NATURAL HAVENS ON THE PLANET

Located on the very eastern side of Africa, in the tropical belt, just below the equator, Tanzania's Zanzibar Island and the other islands along the coast are blessed with year round sunshine and a balmy climate of around 30 degrees centigrade (86 Fahrenheit). At around a one hour flying time for the northern wildlife parks of Tanzania and a mere 45 minutes from the southern parks, it is understandable why Tanzania’s rise to safari and beach fame has been so meteoric. It is in a truly privileged position out of any African country!

ZANZIBAR ISLANDS

Picture perfect! Made famous for its spices and the slave trade of the 19th century, Zanzibar Island is much more than a stopping point on an itinerary, and can be seen as a destination in itself. What the island offers is a unique combination of stunning beaches, rich history, authentic cuisines, and interesting activities, such as visiting a working spice farm, the former slave market, and the cultural delights of Stone Town, with Arabian fortresses and minarets.

Sample Itinerary #1

RELAX & REJUVENATE IN STYLE - UNDERWATER HOTEL

Spend nights sleeping beneath the surface of the ocean at this partially submerged hotel suite in the Zanzibar. Located 250 meters off the coast of Pemba Island, the Underwater Room forms parts of the Manta Resort, a holiday retreat on the mainland of the island, and comprises a three-storey floating structure with its lowest level positioned four meters beneath the water.

LAKE TANGANYIKA (LUPITA ISLAND)

Lake Tanganyika is an African Great Lake. It is estimated to be the second largest freshwater lake in the world by volume, and the second deepest. It is also the world's longest freshwater lake. Lake Tanganyika is a home of the Lupita Island, one of the world's luxurious resorts as features in the Forbes magazine in 2011.

SAADANI NATIONAL PARK

In between Pangani and Bagamoyo, and opposite the island of Zanzibar, lies the small national park of Saadani; this is the only place in East Africa where it is possible to game drive in the morning and swim in the Indian Ocean before lunch! While not necessarily the most prolific of destinations for game numbers, the park holds an interesting array of animals and is great for those that are looking for a scenic and interesting beach.

BAGAMOYO BEACHES

Bagamoyo city is a short drive from a major city, Dar Es Salaam, and a perfect gateway from the mainstream and busy lifestyle. There are lots of new and good hotels with international standards that can be found at the northern and the southern end of town, in a row directly at the beach.
